Inflation in China records its lowest levels since March

Data released by the National Bureau of Statistics of China on Thursday morning showed that the consumer price index (CPI) in the People's Republic experienced growth in December at the fastest pace since March.

According to the data, the consumer price index (the general inflation in China) grew by 0.1% year-on-year in December, matching expectations that predicted the same growth rate. The December reading was lower than the figure recorded in November, which showed a 0.2% increase in the consumer price index.

On the other hand, the producer price index (PPI) recorded its lowest contraction since September, marking a four-month low. The data from the statistics bureau indicated that the producer price index in China contracted by 2.3% year-on-year in December, while expectations pointed to a 2.4% contraction. The previous reading showed a 2.5% contraction in producer price inflation in November.
