RBC Global Asset Management has hired Ivan Pelipenko as Senior Trader, with responsibility covering global fixed income and currencies, in a move that brings an experienced institutional FX professional to the asset manager’s Toronto trading operation.
Pelipenko arrives after more than 18 years with Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan, where his career included direct exposure to both emerging-market currencies and broader global trading.
He joined Ontario Teachers’ in 2007 as a Principal in Emerging Markets Fixed Income and Currencies, before moving through senior roles and ultimately serving as Director, Global Trading, Total Fund Management for eight years.
His experience also extends beyond individual trading desks. Pelipenko previously served on the Canadian Foreign Exchange Committee, which works with market participants and the Bank of Canada on FX market developments, practices and procedures.
The hire gives RBC GAM additional senior experience across currency and fixed-income execution at a time when institutional FX markets continue to evolve through increased automation, changing liquidity conditions and greater integration between rates and currency trading.
RBC GAM operates as the asset-management arm of Royal Bank of Canada, serving institutional and other investors across global markets. The group says it manages approximately $560 billion in assets through operations spanning Canada, the United States, Europe and Asia.
Pelipenko’s move therefore represents a notable buy-side appointment for the institutional FX market, particularly given his long-standing experience across currencies, emerging markets and global trading.
