Mexican fintech Orbi has announced a partnership with SoFi Tech Solutions and Mastercard to support a crypto-linked card program in Mexico, enabling users to spend digital asset balances through traditional payment networks.
Announced on October 8, 2026, the collaboration connects Orbi's digital asset platform with Mastercard's global acceptance network through SoFi Tech Solutions, formerly known as Galileo. Customers can use physical or virtual cards linked to their digital-dollar balances, with transactions converted into traditional currency so merchants receive fiat payments.
Under the arrangement, SoFi Tech Solutions provides Mastercard BIN sponsorship, card issuance infrastructure, transaction authorization, processing and compliance capabilities. Its connection to Mastercard's domestic payment network in Mexico also supports card purchases and ATM withdrawals.
Orbi is the first digital asset-focused company participating in SoFi Tech Solutions' Mastercard BIN sponsorship program in Mexico, marking a step toward integrating cryptocurrency-based financial services with established payment infrastructure.
The partnership also creates opportunities for future stablecoin-powered cross-border payments and remittances involving SoFiUSD, a dollar-backed digital asset issued by SoFi Bank in the United States. However, these additional capabilities remain part of the companies' future plans.
The announcement reflects growing interest in using stablecoins for practical financial transactions, particularly in markets such as Mexico, where international remittances and access to dollar-denominated assets play an important role in the financial system.
