HSBC has appointed Mohamed Sami Fekih as Head of Middle East and North Africa (MENA) Foreign Exchange Trading, bringing an experienced regional currency trader into its Dubai-based operations.
Fekih joins HSBC from Standard Chartered, where he spent four years trading MENA currencies in Dubai. His responsibilities involved foreign exchange markets across the region, adding to his experience in regional currency trading and market activity.
Before joining Standard Chartered, Fekih spent more than 12 years at Citi in Tunis, specialising in North African foreign exchange and local markets trading. His career across international banking institutions has provided him with extensive exposure to emerging-market currencies and the trading dynamics of the Middle East and North Africa.
Fekih confirmed his move to HSBC through a social media announcement, marking the latest development in his career in institutional foreign exchange trading.
The appointment follows another leadership change within HSBC's global FX business. Earlier in October, the bank promoted Tom Zhang to Head of Asia FX Trading for the Americas, based in New York.
Zhang joined HSBC in 2022 as an emerging-markets FX trader covering Asia and subsequently held a director position. Before joining the bank, he spent seven years at Barclays, gaining experience in Asian emerging-market currency trading.
The two appointments highlight recent changes across HSBC's regional foreign exchange trading leadership, covering both MENA currencies and Asian FX markets in the Americas.
Fekih's appointment brings additional regional trading experience to HSBC's Dubai operation, as the bank continues to develop its foreign exchange trading capabilities across international markets.
