Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited (HKEX) has announced plans to introduce 12 new single-stock option classes on November 9, 2026, expanding its derivatives offering as demand for flexible stock trading products continues to grow.
The new contracts will feature both weekly and monthly expiries from their first trading day, allowing market participants to select contracts that better match their investment strategies, trading horizons and risk management requirements.
The expansion covers a range of underlying securities, including Kingboard Holdings, ASMPT, China Gold International, Hansoh Pharmaceutical, GigaDevice, Biren Technology and the CSOP Hang Seng TECH ETF. The addition of these products will extend HKEX's weekly single-stock options coverage to 66 listed companies and exchange-traded funds across multiple sectors.
According to HKEX, single-stock options recorded an average daily trading volume of 899,056 contracts during the first nine months of 2026, representing a 1.4% increase compared with the same period last year and a record for the nine-month period.
Weekly single-stock options, first introduced by HKEX in November 2024, have also gained significant traction, with cumulative trading volume exceeding 51 million contracts. These shorter-dated products consistently account for approximately 20% of trading activity in the corresponding stock option classes.
The introduction of additional contracts reflects HKEX's efforts to broaden its derivatives market and provide investors with more instruments for hedging, portfolio management and short-term market positioning.
Details of the new option classes, including contract specifications and expiry arrangements, have been published through HKEX's official market circular.
