SoftBank bets on artificial intelligence and acquires Ampere for semiconductors.

The "SoftBank" group announced its acquisition of "Ampere Computing," a company specialized in semiconductors, in a deal valued at $6.5 billion.

"Ampere" will operate as a wholly-owned subsidiary of "SoftBank," while retaining its name. The major investors in "Ampere," which are "Carlyle" and "Oracle," have sold their stakes in the company. The deal is expected to be completed in the second half of 2025.

"Ampere" was founded in Silicon Valley in 2018 and focuses on cloud computing and sustainable artificial intelligence computing. This acquisition is part of "SoftBank's" expansion of its investments in artificial intelligence infrastructure.

Masayoshi Son, Chairman and CEO of "SoftBank Group," believes that "Ampere" will help accelerate the group's vision in the field of advanced artificial intelligence.

This deal reflects "SoftBank's" increasing interest in the artificial intelligence sector and its efforts to strengthen its position in this field. "Ampere" is considered a promising company in the semiconductor industry, with extensive experience in high-performance computing, making it a valuable addition to "SoftBank."

This acquisition is expected to speed up the development of artificial intelligence technologies and enhance innovation in this area. The deal strengthens SoftBank's presence in the American artificial intelligence market.

On the trading front, SoftBank's share ( TYO: 9984 ) closed down by 1.97% in yesterday’s session, but the acquisition deal is expected to affect the stock's trading today.
