Coinbase Appoints Anthony Armstrong to Board of Directors

Coinbase Global has appointed Anthony Armstrong to its Board of Directors, adding an experienced finance and technology executive as the cryptocurrency company strengthens its governance and strategic leadership.

The appointment became effective on September 1, 2026, with Coinbase increasing the size of its board from nine to ten directors. Armstrong will also join the company’s Audit Committee.

Armstrong brings experience spanning investment banking, technology and large-scale corporate operations.

Before joining Coinbase’s board, he most recently served as Chief Financial Officer across Elon Musk-linked companies including xAI, X.AI Corp. and X Corp., where he was involved in financial management and operational strategy.

Earlier in his career, Armstrong spent nearly a decade at Morgan Stanley, where he helped build and lead the bank’s global technology mergers and acquisitions practice and ultimately served as Vice Chairman of Investment Banking.

He also served as a Senior Advisor in the Executive Office of the President, working with the Department of Government Efficiency on improving the efficiency of large and complex organizations.

Coinbase said Armstrong’s combination of traditional finance expertise and experience with rapidly growing technology companies aligns with the company’s focus on efficient execution and scaling its operations.

According to Coinbase’s regulatory filing, Armstrong was appointed following a recommendation from the company’s Nominating and Corporate Governance Committee and will serve until the company’s 2027 annual shareholders meeting, unless his service ends earlier.

The appointment brings additional financial and technology expertise to Coinbase’s board as the company continues expanding its crypto and digital-asset businesses.
