Asian Investors Take Their Profits

The heady air of gains dissipated Wednesday, as uncertainty set in on Asian markets. In Japan, the Nikkei 225 let go of Tuesday’s gains on Wednesday, flopping 111.89 or 0.3%, to 44,790.38. One exception proved to be Hong Kong, where the Hang Seng popped 469.88 points, or 1.8%, to 26,908.39. In other markets In Shanghai, the CSI 300 eked higher 27.68 points, or 0.6%, to 4,551.02. In Korea, the Kospi lost 36.22 points, or 1.1%, from Tuesday’s record close, at 3,413.40. In Singapore, the Straits Times Index dropped 13.96 points, or 0.3%, to 4,323.76. In Taiwan, the Taiex index stumbled 191.39 points, or 0.8%, to 25,438.25 In New Zealand, the NZX 50 fell 6.51 points, or 0.1%, to 13,228.38. In Australia, the ASX 200 shed 59.3 points, or 0.7%, to 8,818.45
