Boeing Defense strike to continue after St. Louis workers reject offer

Boeing Co (NYSE:BA) Defense workers in St. Louis, Missouri, rejected the company’s latest contract offer on Sunday, keeping a long-running strike in place and pointing to more potential delays in the planemaker’s military contracts.

The International Association of Machinists & Aerospace Workers (IAM) said in a statement that more than 3,200 members of the union had voted against Boeing’s latest contract offer, stating that the company had failed to address several major demands from its workforce.

The strike is now set to enter its 14th consecutive week, with workers demanding the return of a pension package, better wages, and improved bonuses.

“Boeing’s corporate executives continue to insult the very people who build the world’s most advanced military aircraft,” IAM President Brian Bryant said.

“It’s well past time for Boeing to stop cheaping out on the workers who make its success possible and bargain a fair deal that respects their skill and sacrifice.”

Earlier in October, union officials had accused Boeing of bargaining in bad faith, and had filed an unfair labor practice charge against the company with the National Labor Relations Board.

The strike had delayed deliveries for several of Boeing’s defense contracts, most notably those of its advanced F-15EX fighters to the U.S. Air Force.

Reports earlier in October showed Boeing was planning to replace striking workers with new hires through the year’s end.
