HSBC Launches RedCoin Stablecoin for More Than 3.3 Million PayMe Users

HSBC has officially launched its first stablecoin, HSBC RedCoin, marking a significant development in the integration of digital assets into mainstream banking and payment services.

Announced on October 23, 2026, the Hong Kong dollar-denominated stablecoin, trading under the ticker RCHKD, is being introduced through the bank's PayMe payment platform.

Licensed and regulated by the Hong Kong Monetary Authority, RedCoin is designed to support everyday digital payments while establishing a foundation for additional tokenized financial services.

According to HSBC, more than 3.3 million PayMe users will be able to activate stablecoin wallets through the application during the rollout.

The service will support instant peer-to-peer payments and transactions with more than 100,000 merchants using PayMe.

Beyond retail payments, HSBC intends to expand RedCoin's functionality to support investment in tokenized financial assets and additional corporate and institutional applications.

The launch builds on the bank's existing digital asset initiatives, including its Orion digital bond platform, Gold Token offering and tokenized deposit services.

RedCoin's introduction also reflects Hong Kong's wider efforts to develop a regulated environment for stablecoin issuance and digital asset innovation.

By bringing stablecoin functionality into an established consumer payments application, HSBC is testing a model that could make blockchain-based payment technology more accessible to everyday financial services users.
