Cross River Bank has announced an expanded partnership with Ripple to integrate Ripple USD (RLUSD), a U.S. dollar-backed stablecoin, into its proprietary banking infrastructure, strengthening connections between conventional financial services and blockchain-based payments.
Announced on October 15, the integration brings RLUSD capabilities to Cross River's Core Operating System, with support for transactions on the XRP Ledger blockchain.
The development is designed to enable financial technology companies to access stablecoin payment functionality through a single application programming interface, reducing the need to manage separate blockchain infrastructure and traditional payment systems.
Cross River said the arrangement supports the movement of funds between U.S. dollars and RLUSD, alongside cross-border payments, treasury transfers and settlement capabilities that can operate around the clock.
The integration also connects stablecoin functionality with established payment methods, including ACH transfers, wire payments and real-time payment networks.
Adam Goller, Head of Fintech Banking at Cross River, described the partnership as a way to simplify international money movement and reduce the complexity associated with using multiple financial service providers.
The announcement reflects increasing interest among regulated financial institutions in incorporating stablecoins into existing payment infrastructure rather than operating entirely separate digital asset systems.
Cross River noted that service availability is currently limited to certain U.S. states, making geographical restrictions an important consideration as the capabilities expand.
