The Australian Bureau of Statistics released data on the country's retail sales index during the early hours of Monday. The data for December showed positive results that were better than market expectations, despite a contraction in retail sales.
According to the reported data, retail sales in Australia contracted by 0.1% in December on a monthly basis, while sales were expected to contract by about 0.7%, after the index recorded a growth of 0.7% in the previous month of November.
During the last quarterly period of 2024, retail sales in Australia achieved a growth of 0.1% compared to the third quarter of the same year, following a growth of 0.5% in the third quarter.
