China's envoy to the United Nations: We will file a complaint against the United States at the World Trade Organization.

In a press conference held on Monday, China's envoy to the United Nations, Fu Cong, stated that his country would file a complaint with the World Trade Organization WTO against the United States in response to U.S. President Donald Trump's unexpected decision to impose a 10% tariff on U.S. imports from China.

The main statements made by the Chinese envoy at the press conference were:

China strongly opposes the unjustified increase in tariffs by the Trump administration. Beijing may be forced to take countermeasures if the United States does not retract its decision. The United States should address its own issue with Canada regarding fentanyl instead of blaming other countries. The smear campaign launched by the United States and some other Western countries regarding China's Belt and Road Initiative in its international trade is completely unfounded. The United States and China could work together on many aspects if the U.S. administration abandons its decision on tariffs. China has certainly been preparing for these tariffs for some time and will not stand idly by. There will be no winner if a global trade war breaks out. The remarks by the Chinese envoy at the United Nations came following the announcement by the U.S. administration regarding the tariff decision on China, and despite Trump's statement that he would speak to China within the next 24 hours to reach an agreement, it does not seem that there is any room for China to accept these new tariffs.
