Spotex, a US-based institutional trading venue specializing in foreign exchange, precious metals, and digital assets, has appointed James Roddy to its Institutional Sales, FX & Digital Assets team for the Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) region, reinforcing its expansion strategy and commitment to strengthening institutional client relationships across international financial markets.
Based in London, Roddy will be responsible for expanding the company's institutional client base, developing new business opportunities, and supporting the adoption of Spotex's electronic trading infrastructure across the region. His appointment comes as the company continues to broaden its international presence and enhance its institutional trading services.
Roddy brings more than 20 years of experience in financial markets, with a professional background spanning foreign exchange, commodities, institutional liquidity, and digital assets. Throughout his career, he has developed extensive relationships with banks, brokers, hedge funds, asset managers, and high-net-worth clients across EMEA.
He began his financial markets career at TP ICAP before spending approximately seven years at BGC Partners, part of Cantor Fitzgerald, where he worked as an interdealer swaps broker. He subsequently moved into foreign exchange and commodities sales trading at ODL Securities, a brokerage later acquired by FXCM.
Roddy went on to hold senior institutional sales, relationship management, and business development positions at several financial services companies, including Jacobi Asset Management and BidX Markets. Most recently, he worked at Advanced Markets, further developing his expertise in institutional trading solutions and client acquisition.
In his new position at Spotex, Roddy will focus on strengthening relationships with existing institutional clients while attracting new participants to the company's trading ecosystem. His responsibilities will also include promoting Spotex's electronic communication network (ECN) and proprietary trading technology, designed to facilitate efficient execution, liquidity access, and risk management across multiple asset classes.
The appointment forms part of Spotex's broader strategy to expand its institutional business across EMEA, where financial institutions increasingly seek advanced execution infrastructure capable of supporting both traditional financial instruments and digital assets.
Spotex CEO John Miesner welcomed Roddy's appointment, emphasizing the importance of establishing a stronger commercial presence in London and the value of his experience across traditional and decentralized financial markets. The company considers his institutional relationships and understanding of evolving client requirements important assets in supporting its regional growth.
Joe Tuccio, Head of Digital Assets at Spotex, also highlighted the significance of recruiting experienced financial markets professionals as the company continues expanding its global operations and developing its institutional offerings.
Roddy expressed enthusiasm about joining Spotex, pointing to the increasing convergence between traditional financial markets and digital assets as an important area of opportunity. His experience across both sectors is expected to support the company's efforts to build new institutional partnerships and strengthen its position in the evolving trading landscape.
Founded in 2010 and headquartered in New Jersey, Spotex operates an institutional electronic trading venue providing market participants with access to liquidity, execution algorithms, trading technology, and market analytics. Its client network includes banks, brokers, hedge funds, and asset managers seeking sophisticated multi-asset trading capabilities.
The company has increasingly focused on expanding its digital asset infrastructure alongside its established FX and precious metals operations, positioning its technology to meet the changing requirements of institutional market participants.
Roddy's appointment marks another development in Spotex's international growth strategy, strengthening its EMEA sales capabilities as demand for advanced institutional trading technology, integrated liquidity solutions, and digital asset execution services continues to evolve.
