Wall Street Futures Rise as Treasury Yields and Oil Prices Retreat

U.S. stock index futures advanced on Tuesday as Treasury yields pulled back from multi-year highs and oil prices declined, offering some relief to investors as markets prepared for the start of the third-quarter earnings season.

Dow Jones Industrial Average futures gained about 0.55%, while S&P 500 futures rose 0.25% and Nasdaq 100 futures added 0.33%, according to Reuters. The gains followed a mixed previous session in which the technology-heavy Nasdaq closed at a record high.

A retreat in U.S. government bond yields helped improve market sentiment. The 30-year Treasury yield eased to around 5.626% after reaching 5.702%, its highest level since 2002, reducing some of the pressure that elevated borrowing costs have placed on equity valuations.

Oil prices also moved lower as concerns over immediate supply disruptions eased. Brent crude traded around $98.58 per barrel, with stronger Middle Eastern export flows and emergency reserve measures helping offset some of the geopolitical risk premium that had pushed energy prices sharply higher.

The decline in oil is particularly significant for the broader market because persistently elevated energy costs could add to inflationary pressures and complicate the Federal Reserve's monetary policy outlook.

Interest-rate expectations remained another major driver. Following weaker-than-expected U.S. employment data, traders increased expectations that the Federal Reserve will leave rates unchanged at its October meeting, while markets continue to assess the possibility of further tightening later in the year.

Technology shares remained in focus after the Nasdaq's latest record close. Nvidia rose in premarket trading, extending investor interest in artificial intelligence-related stocks and reinforcing technology's role in supporting major U.S. equity indices.

Investors are now turning their attention toward the third-quarter earnings season, which could provide a clearer picture of whether corporate profits are strong enough to support equity valuations amid high interest rates, elevated energy prices and continuing geopolitical uncertainty.

For global markets, the combination of lower Treasury yields, softer oil prices and resilient technology shares has provided near-term support for risk appetite, although the outlook remains sensitive to incoming economic data, Federal Reserve signals and developments in global energy markets.
